2021 Eye Flooring Style

With the arrival of a new year comes the onslaught of different “trend” reports detailing what is hot and what is not when it comes to interiors, design and flooring. At Eye Flooring we believe that you shouldn’t follow what’s said to be “in fashion” too much when selecting your new floors, as we guarantee those floors will last a lot longer than the so called trends will. That being said, we thought we would compile a blog detailing what we are seeing a rise in interest in from our very own customers and the types of flooring we are laying for them, if anything to provide some welcome inspiration for anyone thinking of reflooring their home or business this year.

Carpet
Despite the accessibility and popularity of different types of hard floors now, carpet is still a popular choice for many. However we are seeing a decline in customers wanting synthetic carpets, rather opting for natural floor coverings such as sisal, coir and wool instead. The need to be more sustainable and the knowledge surrounding the benefits of “being green” are in the forefront of the consumers mind at the moment and this is affecting their purchasing decisions, including what flooring they want in their homes. Other than being kinder to the environment, natural carpets are hardwearing, sound absorbing and work well in both modern and period settings providing a neutral, minimalist aesthetic to any room.

Hard Flooring
Along with the rise in customers seeking natural carpets, more and more are enquiring about natural hard flooring options too. Engineered wood flooring is definitely garnering more interest as it is an incredibly hardwearing floor and really adds an enduring charm to the home or business. It is now available in a variety of different colours, effects and finishes such as smoked and tumbled, as well as in different plank widths and lengths for a multitude of laying patterns.
Engineered wood can be quite a costly investment in comparison with other hard floors, which is why brands such as Harvey Maria who design and create Luxury Vinyl Tiles are paving the way with their own environmentally-friendly and recyclable flooring. These are popular with customers wanting hard floors that are nicer to the environment but want more design led options such as decorative tile effect floors as opposed to wood planks or laying patterns common with wood.

Rugs and Runners
The popularity of hard flooring has also seen an increase in customers wanting large floor coverings and runners for their stairs and landings. Again natural carpets have been more popular and even coloured wools patterned with stripes which liven up living spaces if the hard flooring is plain or more neutral.

Pattern
Patterned floors are rather subjective and really down to the individual. The different brands that we work with manufacture a lot more patterned, ceramic effect luxury vinyl tiles now which we frequently fit for our customers in smaller areas of the home such as hallways and bathrooms. However there are some patterns which continue to stand test of time such as parquet and diagonal laid tiles in contrasting colours which make your floors a classic feature.

Colour
Whether you are trying to match your décor or have a particular theme running through a room, like pattern, colour is also subjective. In carpet we have seen a lot of customers requesting greys which is in keeping with the recently announced Pantone colours of 2021 (Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow). Natural flooring like sisal or coir come in more muted neutral colours, giving the opportunity for colour elsewhere in the home. With hard flooring, particularly with wood or wood effect classic colours like traditional oak is still popular along with lighter grey and ashy looking planks.

Eye Flooring Style
Though trends come and go and we see an influx in certain styles, there are a lot of variables which need to be considered when choosing your new flooring, factors such as light, size and use of the room etc should also play a part in your decision making process. We know it can be a bit of a mind-field due to the magnitude of flooring available but luckily we are still working taking enquiries, arranging site visits for dropping samples, measuring, fitting, providing quotes and offering advice on what flooring would complement your taste, your home or your business.

We are so pleased with the flooring and would like to say a huge thank you to you all for such a professional job... ~ Nicky and Chris Windell, Stowmarket
