From Store to Floor

Tagged: All Articles / Business News

The process of buying new flooring isn’t something that people have to do very often which is why it can be a bit overwhelming knowing where exactly to begin. To help you out, we have put together a simple step by step to get you on your way from viewing samples in the store to admiring your brand-new floor!

Getting Started

It doesn’t matter whether you know exactly the kind of flooring you want or have no idea whatsoever and need advice, we are here to help. We will begin by asking some questions to gather as much information as you can give us as this will help us with our flooring recommendations. Simple things like colour scheme, which room in the house and it’s use, do you have pets, children, the age of the property – the more information we have the more helpful we can be as it means we can help find the right flooring for you because, I don’t know if you noticed, the choice is overwhelming!

Samples

Our showroom is open 6 days a week providing plenty of opportunity to come and peruse our flooring offerings. As all the samples are available here, it is often easier to come to the shop in the first instance before an appointment to measure up the area/s however, if you are unable to visit us here in Eye we can always bring samples out to you. We always recommend taking a selection of samples home so you can view them in situ and make sure they look right with your lighting, décor, colour scheme etc. It is good to view the samples over the course of a few days which is why we are happy for you to hang onto the samples for as long as you need to as we appreciate your new flooring will be down for a long time so it is important not to rush the decision and make what could be a costly mistake.

Site Visit

Though we can, and sometimes do, work off customers own measurements, it is always best to arrange a site visit so we can measure and do all the relevant checks to ensure there are no nasty surprises on the day of installation. At the appointment we measure all the room/s using a laser for accuracy, we test for damp and check the condition of the subfloor to see if any further recommendations will be needed. We will also talk specifics with you; will you need help moving furniture, do you want us to uplift and dispose of the existing flooring, will you want to decorate first, things like that, all of which factor into the process of getting new flooring. This appointment also provides another opportunity for you to ask any further questions you may have. All of our site visits are performed by members of our floor fitting team and not salesman, they will likely be the ones fitting your floor and will answer all questions honestly, drawing upon their many years of experience which means you can rest assured that all of the information you receive is reliable.

Quotes and Booking

Once we have the measurements we can give you a quote on your chosen flooring or, if you can’t make up your mind, quotes. Our quotes are held for four weeks so plenty of time for you to decide. Once you have decided and wish to proceed, we take a 50% deposit before booking a date and ordering materials with the rest of the balance being requested once the flooring installation is complete and you are happy with it. Generally speaking our turnaround time from your acceptance of the job to fitting is 4-6 weeks. This can sometimes be shorter or longer dependent on availability of materials from manufacturers, size and simplicity of the job, both our schedules etc.

The Installation

You can contact us at any time between confirming and the date of your fitting appointment if you have any questions, we are here to help and appreciate it is a big undertaking and you want to feel comfortable with what is happening in your home and who you have in it. When the day comes, fitters are normally on site from 8/830 in the morning and can sometimes remain working up until 5-6pm. You don’t need to be there while the flooring is being done as we appreciate our customers have other commitments so we will do our best to work around you and your schedule. Some customers leave a key, some come and go, we will be guided by you as to what will be best and cause you the least amount of inconvenience during the installation process.

Admire Your New Floors

Once installed you will be provided with all the relevant aftercare information however we are only ever at the end of the phone should you need to contact us for advice. We tend to send an invoice through the day after completion of the work which details exactly what we used and the type of flooring so you have a record of everything. All that is left after that is to take a step back and admire your new floors!

For further information check out our FAQ’s page or give us a call, email or visit and we will be happy to help you.
